Story
In celebration of turning 50 this year, I decided to set myself the goal of running 50 at 50! On Sunday 7 June 2026 I will be taking part in the BigSea Trails 54km Ultramarathon. This trail running event takes place in beautiful Dorset including the Purbeck Hills, Corfe Castle, Old Harry Rocks and the South West Coast Path.
This is the longest event I’ve ever taken on and will be a challenge especially as the route is hilly and I don’t like hills! I anticipate being on my feet for 7 to 8 hours. My goal is to finish and enjoy the day and the gorgeous scenery (there’s got to be some reward for all the hill climbs).
I’d also like to take this opportunity to highlight the excellent work done by a charity local to the area surrounding the event, Birds of Poole Harbour. They deliver conservation projects in an area which is one of Britain’s most ecologically important areas, rich with nationally and internationally, important bird species. Birds of Poole Harbour are a charity offering real gains in habitat creation and enhancement and their people engagement projects provide a chance for all of us to connect with birds and nature. Their flagship project is the Poole Harbour Osprey reintroduction program, working with the Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation to restore a breeding population of Osprey on the South Coast.
Please show your support for me and my crazy attempt to complete a 54km ultramarathon, and the excellent work of the Birds of Poole Harbour with a donation via my Just Giving account.
