Story
Ladder Climb:
Scalloway Fire Station Crew have organised a Ladder Climb for Saturday 30th of August at the Lerwick Fire Station. They will be repeatedly climbing until they reach the height of Ben Nevis, 1345 m, up a 13.5m ladder. The team are donating all money raised to Brain Tumour Research in memory of Dad.
Half Marathon:
As you all might know we lost Dad suddenly in September 2024 to a brain hemorrhage. He always supported everything we did, encouraging us to just give it our all. If we did that, then no matter what the outcome, he was always proud of us.
We imagine some of you will laugh at the thought of Dad trying to run a half marathon, and from the family hike's we had up Ronas Hill then let us tell you there would have been a lot of swearing...and cigarette breaks.
The half marathon has been chosen as it is on the 25th of May which is Dads birthday, he would have been just 52.
Scalloway Fire Station Crew have also organised a Ladder Climb for Saturday 30th of August at the Lerwick Fire Station. They will be repeatedly climbing until they reach the height of Ben Nevis, 1345 m, up a 13.5m ladder. The team are donating all money raised to Brain Tumour Research in memory of Dad.
The charity we are raising money for, Brain Tumour Research, is close to our families hearts. Mam was diagnosed with a Brain Tumour in 2012 and in 2013 herself, Clare and Katherine ran the Run to the Beat Half Marathon, raising over £10k for Brain Tumour Research.
There are also other people close to the family who have helped us greatly in coping with Dads passing, a few of which have been diagnosed with brain tumours as well. Dad always wanted to help his family and friends whenever they needed, and so through this we hope he can do that one more time.
Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer… yet just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease. This is unacceptable!
Together we will find a cure.
Please donate as little or as much as you can, we appreciate everything you can give. Thank you from us all. We love you Dad.
