Story
Fred: Street Child is exactly the same age as me. The day Mum and Dad decided to start Street Child is the day they found out they were going to have me! We’ve both grown up since then - I’m now 6 foot 2, and Street Child has helped over 1.5 million children in over 20 countries!
Arthur: I don’t remember life without Street Child either - Mum says it was starting a family that made them start Street Child when they did. So Fred and I and our 2 younger brothers have grown up with Street Child all around us. Street Child staff, from all over the world, are often coming to stay and have meetings with Mum and Dad. And Dad especially travels a lot, so we’ve heard a lot of sad, funny and interesting stories. But so far we haven’t actually visited any of Street Child’s work.
Fred: … until October 1/2 term, when Arthur and I are travelling to Sierra Leone with Mum and Dad to take part in the Sierra Leone Marathon! It feels like a really big moment - for all of us really.
I’m really excited. We’re going to do the half-marathon, so combined that is a full marathon we reckon! And Mum and Dad are going to do it too - so 2 marathons between us! Arthur likes running, me, really not so much! I’m pretty sure it’s going to be very tiring especially because it’s going to be so hot and humid.
Arthur: I’m looking forward to it! And I’m looking forward to visiting Street Child projects and schools and seeing the real work for myself. And to meeting the Street Child staff in Sierra Leone who have worked with Mum and Dad all these years.
I finish school this coming summer and whilst I’m looking forward to what’s next, I know I’ll miss my friends and teachers and sports teams. It’s not right that so many millions of children don’t even get the chance to go to school. I know Street Child has built something like 600 schools in Sierra Leone alone.
Fred: So we’re excited for this adventure, to learn much more about this part of our family’s life - and we want to try and raise some money through our ambitious half-marathon attempt for this wonderful cause.
If you would think about sponsoring us we would be delighted.
Thank you very much for supporting Street Child and helping children to be safe, in school and learning.
p.s It costs about £100 Street Child to be able to send a child to school. We hope we can raise enough that for every mile we run, we’ll know another child can go to school
p.p.s it’s Dad’s birthday on marathon day, and we know he would think meeting this target would just be the best present
p.p.p.s we’ll take lots of photos and tell you about it when we get back.
