Story
I’m Jamie a petrolhead and will be embarking on this journey with my partner Freddie (Frederica). While this is the sort of trip I have always wanted to do due to my love of all things fast and noisy we do unfortunately/fortunately have very first hand experience of what a massive difference the charity Little Miracles makes. While I know this won’t be easy reading I do think it’s important to give some context as to why raising money for this charity absolutely does make such a huge difference.
Freddie's son Edward (Ted) was a very happy healthy six year old boy who loved the things a typical six year old does such as exploring, nature, dinosaurs and fossils along with less typical things such as wanting to be a robber and getting arrested.
Following a seizure Ted was left not quite himself, resulting tests revealed he had a terminal condition called Adrenoleukodystrophy. As Ted declined he lost his vision, speech, use of his arms and legs and ability to swallow, meaning he was confined to a wheelchair and required 24/7 care. Ted did however retain his hearing and his very wicked dark sense of humour. Anyone’s misfortune or the sound of police sirens and the threat of his imminent arrest sent him in to fits of laughter.
For Freddie doing as much with Ted as possible, entertaining him and ensuring his days were filled with the fun he deserved was her absolute mission, but a very difficult one due to the limitations of a wheelchair and teds specific needs. This is where Little Miracles came in, providing days where Freddie could take Ted to events set up specifically with his needs in mind, along with the support of carers and being able to chat to other parents in similar situations at such a challenging time.
In August 2025, Ted attended an event organised by Little miracles in Wisbech where they did balloon modelling and he saw a Punch and Judy show, Ted had an wonderful time and spent the day laughing his head off as can be seen in the picture below. The next morning Ted had a seizure and passed away in Milton hospice aged 10.
While loosing a child is the most painful experience imaginable little things do make a huge difference. Knowing Ted spent his last day laughing and joking has meant the world to Freddie and Teds family. We know first hand how much of a difference charities such as Little Miracles make and hopefully this helps explain a little more about how.
So dig deep everybody and help us to raise £1k per car for Little Miracles and we will hopefully make it there and back in our 28 year old, little silver BMW Z3 without too many dramas! All the money raised goes directly to Little Miracles, we have personally brought the car and are funding all expenses ourselves.
Thankyou for reading Jamie and Freddie x
