Story
Hi, my name is Freddie, and I am 17 years old. On the 12th of April 2026, I will be running the Brighton Marathon to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society.
Over the past 10 years, I have experienced first-hand the impact that Alzheimer’s disease has not only on those diagnosed with it, but also on the families around them. Both of my Nans have suffered from this illness, and seeing what they went through has inspired me to take on this challenge and raise money to help fight it.
In 2014, my late Nan, Sheila, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s when I was only six years old. After five difficult years, she sadly passed away in 2019 due to a blood clot in the lungs. She was one of the kindest and most loving people I knew, and watching the disease slowly take away her personality was truly heartbreaking.
More recently, my other Nan, Doreen, has also been living with Alzheimer’s. She is now in a dementia care home where she receives 24-hour support as everyday activities become more difficult. She was always such a strong and proud woman, and seeing how this disease has affected her is a major reason why I want to raise money to help tackle Alzheimer’s.
By donating, you will be supporting the Alzheimer’s Society and the incredible work they do to better understand the disease, develop treatments to slow its progression, and ultimately find a cure.
Every donation counts, and any contribution would mean a great deal.
Thank you very much for your support.
Freddie
