Story
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, my name is Freddie, I'm 22 turning 23, and I have decided to do the Wellington Marathon of 2025, I'm so excited but also nervous.
There was a time in my life when the walls of a hospital room felt more like a nightmare than a place of healing. Diagnosed with OCD, generalized anxiety disorder, anorexia, and depression, I had spent years in and out of treatment but one particular admission was particularly challenging. Instead of receiving the help I desperately needed, I felt trapped, unheard, powerless, it was a really difficult time in my life.
I remember staring at the ceiling, feeling invisible, as if my voice had been swallowed by the system that was meant to protect me. My family, too, felt helpless, watching from the sidelines, unable to break through the barriers that kept them from advocating for me in the way they so desperately wanted. I really feel something needs to change, for so many others they felt lost in a system that often forgot the very people it was supposed to serve.
Today, I share my story not just to heal but to raise awareness for those still battling in the shadows. That’s when I discovered POhWER. POhWER advocate for mental health rights. They are human rights, and no one should ever feel abandoned in their fight for recovery.
POhWER is more than just an organization—it is a lifeline. For every person who has ever felt unheard, for every parent who has cried themselves to sleep not knowing how to help their child, and for every soul who has ever questioned their worth, POhWER stands as a reminder that no one is alone. Together, we can create a world where mental health is not just acknowledged but fiercely protected.
It would be amazing if you could donate, anything no matter the amount will make a difference,
Lots of love,
Freddie
