Story
My most enduring memories of my grandfather are not pleasant. He suffered from Alzheimer's and as a young lad I witnessed the years-long struggles he endured. As much as it pained me and my family to see the him fade before our eyes, one thing endured the longest: his love for classical music.
The arts have a unique ability to profoundly move our spirit, as witnessed in the glint in my grandad's eyes when we put Wagner on the stereo. Long after he had forgotten even his own son and lost his speech, he still recognised the happy memories associated with artistic experience.
Having experienced at a young age the power of the arts to inspire, empower and comfort, I have been priviliged to be able to encourage (in my own small ways) engagement with artistic practice. Engaged to a professional artist who predominantly works to promote and facilitate young people's art, I feel it is about time I too contribute to the cause.
Hence why I am raising funds for Arts for Dementia. Their team of volunteers work with leading arts organisations to create inspirational workshops that transform the lives of people living with early-stage dementia.
I hope you will support my effort to bolster their coffers and help me raise £555 for this amazing charity.
