A Haven for Nathan — Why I’m Trekking the South Downs Challenge on 5 September 2026 in under 18Hrs!
Nathan’s journey began with unimaginable challenges. Born with Edwards Syndrome and Jacobsen Syndrome, he was not expected to live beyond two weeks. Yet, against all odds, he has defied every expectation. From heart surgeries in his first months to countless hospital stays, Nathan’s resilience shines through every day.
Though non-verbal and unable to walk, Nathan communicates boundless joy with every smile and moves forward with a determination that humbles everyone who knows him. He is stubborn, hilarious, loving and cherished deeply by his three brothers and devoted parents.
Now, this incredible family faces a new battle: securing a home that truly meets Nathan’s needs. They require a fully accessible bedroom and bathroom, hoisting systems, ample space for essential medical equipment, and a kitchen designed for ease of care, not one partially housed in a shed. This home will safeguard Nathan’s dignity and protect the health of his parents, both ambulance service workers who tirelessly serve their community despite their own health challenges.
Planning permission is approved; however, they must raise over £100,000 to transform this vision into reality. I am trekking the South Downs Challenge 2026 in under 18hrs to support Sullivan's Heroes in raising £10,000 GBP towards this vital cause.
If that's not crazy enough I am running 600KM as part of my training plan, where you can track and monitor my progress towards this goal, just click on this link and search for Frederick Hurley: https://www.ultrachallenge.com/camino-trails/camino-virtual-map/
Every step I take on this trek is inspired by Nathan’s strength and resilience. Every mile is dedicated to his family’s unwavering love and courage.
Your donation will bring them closer to a safe haven where caring for Nathan is no longer an exhausting struggle but a supported reality filled with hope.
Please join me in making this dream come true.
