Freezberty takes on Ultra Freeze

Ultra Freeze · 1 February 2025
This February, I'll be taking part in a challenge that I've created called 'Ultra Freeze'.
Following on from the success of Freezbrury last year where we raised nearly 25,000 euro for the Irish Cancer Society, I wanted to do something different and tougher this year and that's when in July, 2024 I came up with the idea of 'Ultra Freeze' with the help of my two friends Conor Lyons & Mike Ryan.
Ultra Freeze will be a mix of ultra running and the principles of Freezbrury. So, I will be inverting the time in the water and running kilometres e.g. 1st February: 1 minute in the sea, 28KM run, 2nd February: 2 minutes in the sea, 27KM run, 15th February: 15 minutes in the sea, 14KM run etc.
I appreciate the concept is mental, it's ridiculous, it's insane but I believe with the help of family, friends, colleagues and other it's achievable.
As last year, all funds raised will be going to the Irish Cancer Society. Having lost my Dad to oesophageal cancer in 2018 and with my Mum currently going through treatment for the second time for breast cancer I've seen how cancer can affect those diagnosed and their closer circle so it's a very personal cause for me.
A note on my Mum, she's doing great and back playing golf. She's actually going skiing the first week of February which I'm very jealous of!
I want to thank everyone who comes out for a swim, run, coffee or donates in advance. We'll hopefully have a lot of fun over the course of the month!
