Hello,

I'm Freya and I work for a fantastic charity called Action Tutoring. I started off with Action Tutoring as a volunteer tutor during my studies, helping children who needed a boost in understanding maths. I found the experience fulfilling and a lot of fun and so applied to be a programme coordinator almost two years ago now. I've seen how valuable the tutoring sessions are in lifting confidence and raising attainment for the pupils we work with and I'd like to raise money to be able to offer our support to more children across the UK.

My dad David and I are going to be running the Bristol 10k to raise money for Action Tutoring. Last time we did a 10k together was 7 years ago now and we both ended up with injuries so we're excited to give it another go!

Pupils from low income backgrounds are less likely to achieve academically. They have as much will, want and determination as their more affluent peers, but often lack access to the tools and resources that help them achieve.

Due to the pandemic and the cost of living crisis, the attainment gap between pupils on free school meals and their more affluent peers is now at its highest mark in a decade. Disadvantaged pupils living in persistent poverty (i.e. on Free School Meals for more than 80% of their school life) are now, on average, over 22 months behind their classmates by the end of secondary school. Our support is needed now more than ever.
