Story

Walter’s Fundraising Walk is a tribute to my dad, Walter Jones. In March 2023, our family received the devastating news that my dad had been diagnosed with a brain tumour and terminal lung cancer.

My dad was the most protective, caring, supportive, and generous parent. He always went above and beyond to make us happy, doing everything for our family. We felt it was important for this walk to represent and honour him. Anyone who knew my dad knows he was a die-hard Manchester United fan. He held a season ticket, and many of our cherished memories revolved around football.

Therefore, as we planned this walk, we felt it was only right to start at his second home—Old Trafford—and walk to our family home, a total of 50km. A group of his close family and friends will partake in this challenge to complete the walk in memory of him.

The walk aims to raise funds for Rosemere Cancer, which provides care and treatment for cancer patients. The care and support my dad and our family's received during his treatmeant so considerate. The money we raise will help us achieve the following goals:

- Modern Equipment to provide the latest tools for doctors to fight cancer effectively.

- To help patients and their families feel less afraid during treatment, making it more comfortable and less stressful.

- Support and fund Local research projects that improve our understanding of cancer, including better ways to diagnose and treat it.

- Train staff to offer high-quality training for clinical staff to ensure they provide the best care for cancer patients.

We miss him dearly and feel inspired to dedicate this walk to him while raising money for a charity that was very close to our hearts, and that supported both him and our family during this difficult time.
