John's 'From Care to Cure' Walk for Alzheimer's Research UK

Thornaby to Newcastle Walk
Every 3 minutes dementia steals a happily ever after. Research is our only chance of changing the ending for people affected by dementia.
My wife, Patricia, was diagnosed with FrontoTemporal Dementia (FTD) in 2012 at the age of 61 years, 18 months after retiring as a nurse in the NHS. Her health deteriorated rapidly. She lost the ability to talk & swallow early on and for the final 6 months she was confined to a wheelchair unable to stand or walk. When she died in 2017 age just 66 years she was still aware and able to recognise her family.
This walk on 19th - 23rd May 2025 is from LiveWell Dementia Hub in Thornaby-on-Tees where Pat & I received support following her diagnosis to the Campus for Ageing and Vitality in Newcastle upon Tyne where Alzheimer's Research UK sponsor a number of research projects.
Alzheimer's Research UK are the UK's leading dementia research charity. They exist for a cure.
Your donation helps their scientists and researchers find new ways to diagnose dementia, develop new treatments and find a cure for dementia.
