CARAS supports refugees and asylum seekers to rebuild their lives in the UK, through practical, social and education initiatives. We empower our community members with the tools necessary to overcome existing barriers and feel part of a community.

Story

We are fundraising to create a compelling video that showcases the diverse and impactful work of CARAS (Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers). This video will provide an overview of CARAS's mission, services, and the contributions of CARAS’s community members, volunteers, and staff.

CARAS works to build a place of safety and dignity for refugees and asylum seekers in south London. Support services that are available can be impossible to access for those who have little or no English, who feel uncomfortable in formal education, are unsure about their rights, lack confidence when finding their way around our area, and have no place to turn in a crisis. Through social activities, English lessons, workshops and individual support, CARAS aims to ensure that no one faces the asylum system alone.

CARAS works from the perspective that people of refugee background are marginalised in the UK and can and do face a complex range of barriers that prevent access to rights, entitlements, opportunities and a good quality of life. These barriers must be addressed comprehensively through education, advocacy, and campaigns for social change. The services offered by CARAS are designed to empower beneficiaries by providing information, tools, resources, and opportunities.

CARAS’s last promotional films are outdated, having been shot over 5 years ago. Creating an engaging video that showcases the fantastic work CARAS does, is vital to expand their reach and increase funding for their essential services. The film will showcase CARAS’s range of group activities that support people of all ages to develop their English skills and access services and opportunities. The film will capture the nurturing community environment at CARAS, which allows community members to build supportive social networks and to feel welcomed.

The film makers are working on a voluntary basis and we are raising £500 to cover equipment, travel and editing costs. Click on our photo gallery for a breakdown of costs. Any extra funds raised will go back into the charity.

Any support is greatly appreciated, to allow us to showcase the vital, transformative work CARAS does!
