Story

SUDAN

The world's largest humanitarian crisis

By January 2024, at least one child was dying every two hours in the Zamzam Camp.

9 out of 10 children in Sudan are suffering from life-threatening malnutrition.

25.6 million Sudanese – over half the population – are in high levels of acute food insecurity.

Over 10.7 million forced from their homes since April 2023, as a result of the war between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

According to the Famine Review Committee (FRC):

“The main drivers of famine in Zamzam Camp are conflict and lack of humanitarian access …”

The main market in Zamzam Camp now opens only intermittently. Prices have rocketed.

Staple grain prices are expected to rise to 200 per cent above last year.

The World Food Programme is doing everything it can:

◊ delivering food and nutrition to over 7.8 million people, and counting

– including in some of the most hard-to-reach areas in the Darfur region

◊ preventing mineral & vitamin deficiencies through nutrition-specific initiatives

◊ distributing cash where needed

◊ expediting hermetic storage bags & airtight silos among smallholder farmers to reduce post-harvest losses

◊ providing vocational skills training to improve livelihood opportunities

This is for them.

Will you help the WFP’s work?

Thank you for whatever you choose to give, at a time of rising living costs and growing charity appeals.

To those of you who have already given:

You have helped save lives.

With my palms together in gratitude.
