Story

My son Harry is 14 years old and suffers with the terminal illness Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. This is a cruel muscle wasting disease and the most common and severe form of muscular dystrophy. Harry, was diagnosed with this when he was only 2 and a half years old and we were told by the doctors to go away and enjoy his life while we could as there is no treatment or cure. Over the last 12 years we have watched him deteriorate, gradually loosing muscle strength in his arms and legs. Eventually he will be unable to walk and will be confined to a wheel chair. The disease will then affect his upper body and he will loose arm function eventually relying on ventilation to help him breathe. Life expectancy is early twenties.

I am cycling 200 miles from London to Paris in 24hrs on Friday 8th May finishing Saturday 9th May at the Eiffel Tower after only 4 hours sleep on the floor of a ferry while getting over the English Channel, to raise as much money as I can. All proceeds will go to help a parent-led charity, Duchenne UK, which is the leading DMD charity in the UK: connecting the best researchers with industry, the NHS and families to advance and accelerate every stage of drug development. Together, hopefully we will end Duchenne and help Harry and others live a longer and more fulfilling life which everyone deserves.

Please help me reach my £4000.00 target by sponsoring me, thanks Gareth (Harrys Dad)
