Story
Hi friends ♥️
I am running the 2026 London Marathon for Pilgrims Hospices in memory of my lovely Dad who I lost to prostate cancer in 2023.
I never spoke or posted about my Dad dying, partly because grief is weird but also because I was never quite prepared for how traumatic and distressing it is seeing someone you love at the end of their life.
The last few months of my Dad’s life were very painful and heartbreaking to see, and the last few days even worse.
It was through this experience that made me realise the importance of end of life support from hospices.
Whilst my Dad was hugely fortunate to die at home in a familiar surrounding with loved ones around him he still had huge amounts of help from Pilgrims Hospice, they looked after him and ensured he had proper physical and emotional support in the last months/weeks/days of his life. They always listened and they always cared.
My gratitude and respect for the Pilgrims Team increased tenfold due to the time of year, Christmas. My Dad ended up passing away late on Christmas Eve and the timing of this made the compassion shown by the hospice team even more powerful and moving. While most people were out celebrating the festivities and enjoying ‘the most wonderful time of the year’, the Pilgrims staff were there to help and ensuring my Dad was as pain free as possible and as peaceful as possible. This dedication during such a meaningful time of year has left a lasting impact on me and deepened my respect for the work they do, day in and day out, regardless of the date on the calendar.
Hospices aren’t always the most well-known or talked-about charities, but the work they during the hardest moments of people’s lives is incredible and why I want to give back to an amazing charity.
Literally any donation is SO beyond appreciated and I am so grateful to anyone who is able to donate 🫶🏻🫶🏻
Bring on April 26th 2026 🏃🏼♀️
