Story

Hi there- thank you for clicking on our JustGiving page!

We, in G Social, have been extremely fortunate to have a privileged upbringing through a high-quality education. Having witnessed the transformative power of education thanks to philanthrophy, we feel that it is our duty to help others experience the same gift.

Madagascar is an incredibly impoverished place, with an estimated 80% of the country living in dire poverty. This vicious cycle of poverty forces parents to keep their children at home to help out with work, since they can’t afford their school fees. In most places, schools aren’t even present! This has resulted in only 40% of the country finishing secondary school and only 10% enrolling at university. The impact of this has been devastating, with 60% of Madagascar’s population being illiterate. Moreover, as a result of low incomes, 93% of Madagascar’s impoverished children (aged 6-23) do not consume at least 5 of the recommended 8 food groups.

Money for Madagascar is an incredible charity which provides communities with schools, new classrooms, books, teacher training and much more! Their programme, Ed4Life, supports over 100 schools to transform the lives of thousands of children. They have worked with numerous residential and day centres (including Akany and Fihavanana) in order to provide homeless and orphaned children with medical, emotional and educational support. This year, their main aim is to open new education hubs in the regions of Itasy and Abohidratrimo.

From the 4th to the 5th of November (from 6pm on Saturday to 6pm on Sunday), we in G Social will host a 24-hour football challenge to raise as much money as we can for Money for Madagascar. All of the money raised will go towards supporting its initiatives, including the building and development of education hubs in Itasy and Abohidratrimo. Our target is £10,000! Everyone in the social will take part and we may even see some subtutors featuring on the football pitch.  We will massively appreciate all of your help which you may give through kind donations and letting others know about this event. Every penny matters in the future of Madagascar!
