Gabe's London Marathon for Spinal Research

London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 ·
14 years ago, I underwent scoliosis surgery having tried multiple non-invasive methods (physio, back-braces (yes, I was teased), and some bizarre cranial osteopathy) to try mitigate what was an increasingly severe curvature of the spine. Unfortunately, these only resulted in speeding up the development of the scoliosis and surgery was the only option. With the help of an amazing surgeon and team, along with 20 screws, 2 titanium rods and countless hours of Jack Bauer saving the world, I was back up and running.
As such, I will be running the London Marathon on 27th April in support of Spinal Research. While my injury was not caused by sudden trauma, there was a very low but non-zero chance that the surgery could have resulted in some form of paralysis. When the spinal cord is injured it can affect far more than the ability to walk. Paralysis impacts movement, sensation, breathing, and much more.
At Spinal Research the vision is to create a world where paralysis can be cured, no matter when the injury occurred or where in the world.
Please support me as I take on this challenge for an amazing cause. Given the state of my back, realistically I only think I have one shot at beating my Father's time...
