Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with blood cancer. Founded in 1974, by growing our register of stem cell donors, conducting research and supporting patients, Anthony Nolan cures blood cancer and blood disorders. But we need to do more. Without you, there is no cure.

Story

Thank you so much for visiting my JustGiving page. It’s been a long time since I last ran a marathon or fundraised in celebration of my friend Dave — and the simple but extraordinary fact that he is still with us today.

For those who have kindly supported before, here’s a reminder of Dave’s journey. In 2012, he was diagnosed with ALL leukaemia. He recovered, but there was always a lingering chance of relapse. Just as life was beginning to return to normal, cancer struck again in May 2016 — this time as AML leukaemia, a far more aggressive and life-threatening disease.

Dave was incredibly fortunate to receive a stem cell transplant from a donor in Belgium. That one selfless act quite literally gave him a second chance at life. Without it, he wouldn’t be here today.

Dave’s transplant took place on 14th September 2016, and for the past 10 years he has truly made the most of every single day of that gift. Thanks to his donor, he has been able to share precious milestones with his wife, children, family, and friends. Dave gets out of bed every day with positivity, gratitude, and a deep understanding of how precious life really is.

Since Dave battled two different forms of leukaemia (ALL in 2012 and AML in 2016), a group of us have worked tirelessly to raise vital funds for Anthony Nolan — the charity that saved his life. Through Team Kenyon and the incredible generosity of friends and family, we’ve raised around £55,000 so far. Every donation, every fundraiser, and every message of support has made a difference, and we are endlessly grateful.

The fundraising journey continues into 2026 — and this time marks something truly special for me. I’ll be taking on two major challenges just weeks apart: the Burj to Burj Half Marathon, followed by the Tokyo Marathon on 1 March 2026. Tokyo will be my sixth and final World Major Marathon, completing the World Series after New York, Berlin, Boston, Chicago, and London (twice). Running this final major in support of Anthony Nolan makes it all the more meaningful.

This year also marks Dave’s 10th stem cell “birthday” — a milestone made possible by Anthony Nolan and the incredible fundraising communities who help save lives every single day. Please consider donating whatever you can. Training hasn’t always been easy, especially with an ongoing ITB injury that seems to appear with every marathon plan, but the pain, sweat, and tears are worth it if it helps give someone else the same second chance at life that Dave received.

Finally, if you’re not already on the stem cell donor register, please consider signing up. It’s free, quick, and involves a simple swab test returned by post. Males aged 17–30 are particularly valuable matches — and you could be the reason someone gets their second chance.

Thank you so much for your support. 💛

Anthony Nolan’s world-leading stem cell register, groundbreaking cell and gene therapy research and expertise in stem cell transplants means we currently help four patients a day in need of a transplant, giving more people another chance to live. But we know we can, and must, do more. Driven by patients, backed by stem cell donors, powered by science, and with your support, we won’t stop until we’ve uncovered the lifesaving potential of the cells inside us all, and every patient can survive and thrive.
