Story

On Sunday, 27th April, a team of us will be walking 22.7 miles from Glasgow Green to Balloch as part of the Kiltwalk, raising vital funds for Maslow’s Community.

Maslow’s - based in Govan, Glasgow - is more than just a charity, it’s a lifeline for asylum seekers, refugees, and local families facing hardship. Our Community Shop provides essential clothing, shoes, household goods, and children’s items free of charge to those in need, while our outreach service ensures that those unable to reach us, many housed in hotels far from local services, are not left behind. Around 10,000 visits were made to our Community Shop last year.

At the heart of it all is The Hub, a place of warmth, friendship, and much-needed support. Whether it’s English classes, women’s groups, creative workshops, one-to-one support, or simply a welcoming space to have a cup of tea and connect with others, the Hub helps people rebuild their confidence, combat isolation, and feel part of a community. The Hub received 7,500 visits last year.

We are volunteer-led, and 90% of our volunteers are refugees and asylum seekers. They bring passion, resilience, and a drive to give back, despite facing immense challenges themselves. Our volunteer programme provides training, experience, and a sense of purpose, helping people build skills, improve their English, and prepare for employment when they finally receive the right to work. But most importantly, it offers community and friendship in a time of upheaval.

Even the smallest donation makes a difference; covering travel costs so a volunteer can get to their shift, providing a hot meal for someone who would otherwise go without, or helping a struggling family access essentials.

Every penny raised is topped up by The Hunter Foundation, meaning your support goes even further.

If you can spare anything at all, please donate, £1, £5, whatever you can. Together, we can make Glasgow a place of dignity, hope, and belonging for all.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
