Join our challenge and complete 200k your way this May to help find a cure for brain tumours.

Story

Our daughter, Sara, was diagnosed with a pituitary tumour at 16. Now, at 21, she is living life to the fullest while continuing to navigate her illness on a daily basis, with the support of the NHS.

Sara will need medical support for the rest of her life and will need to carefully manage her symptoms and any medication, in order to continue to live a health life.

This is why we have decided to take on the ‘200k your way this May’ challenge, raising money for the Brain Tumour Research charity, to help find a cure for brain tumours.

We’ll be walking, cycling and running at least 200km (each) throughout the month of May and we’d really appreciate your support for a cause that is very close to our hearts.

However, I’ll be aiming to complete at least 500km on May, as a personal target!

Our charity – Brain Tumour Research has a mission to increase the UK investment in brain tumour research.

Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, yet historically just 1% of the national spend on cancer research has been allocated to this devastating disease.

Brain Tumour Research is determined to change this.

Brain Tumour Research are the only national charity in the UK focused on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours through campaigning to increase the national investment in brain tumour research to £35 million per year, while fundraising to create a network of seven sustainable Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence across the UK.

Pituitary tumours form in or on the pituitary gland. They are not officially classified as brain tumours but fall within the category of endocrine (hormone) system tumours: which means that these patients get extra care. Part of the multi-disciplinary team looking after somebody with this type of tumour would therefore include a neuro-endocrinologist who specialises in supporting the balance of hormones, as well as the same people who would care for someone with a brain tumour.

Thank you so much for your support, it is really appreciated.
