Gareth Howley is raising money for Hearing Dogs For Deaf People

London Marathon 2025 · 27 April 2025 ·

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People trains dogs to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds such as the smoke alarm, alarm clock, intruder alarms and baby monitors. These amazing dogs also help deaf people to leave loneliness behind by providing love, companionship and emotional support.

Story

Thanks for visiting my Just Giving page. As a former 25 stone Strongman I'm not really designed to be a runner , its safe to say I'm totally stepping out of my comfort zone for this...... but for a really good cause.

On the 15th June 2024 I Ran "The Wall' which is a 70 mile Ultra, Starting in Carlisle and finishing in Newcastle 21 and a half hours later which was one of the most difficult things I have ever done I did this to raise money for the fantastic cause of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Im incredibly grateful for all the support I recieved and we raised a good amount of money for this wonderful cause over £600 however I wasn't satisfied I had set myself a goal of raising more so we could really help change the lives of those in need so I have now decided to run the London Marathon in order to help raise more.

However i wanted to really try and raise as much as possible so thought I would see how far I can push myself. I will aim to start my journey to the finish line in Paris and then run from Paris to London and finish with the TCS London marathon.

That will be over 260 miles in just 10 days! To say I may have bitten off more than I can. Chew is an understatement but I’m determined to get this done!

If you would like to support then every penny is appreciate.

Its sometimes easy to forget how much we rely on our senses and what a huge impact it has if you take one away, imagine not being able to hear traffic, a fire alarm, the door bell or having everyone around you having conversations you cant hear or feel a part of.

Hearing Loss can have a massive impact in quality of life day to day activities to social interactions. Man's (and woman's) best friend can really change the lives of those who live with hearing loss being there to support people, alerting them to things they may otherwise miss and staving off loneliness through companionship.

That Is why I have decided that to use this run to support Hearing Dogs for Deaf people as they believe that nobody with deafness or hearing loss should feel alone. Training dogs to help deaf children and adults to leave loneliness behind and reconnect with life.

To support this fantastic cause my Brother Ant Howley is also going to running the Pisa Half marathon so I’ll be joining him to support him on his first distance event as he’s only been running since August!
