On Saturday 3rd May 2025, I'll be attempting to complete the Pennine Barrier 50 Mile Ultramarathon - starting at Malham, heading over to Pen-y-ghent, doing the Yorkshire Three Peaks, and then back to Malham.
In doing so I'll also be looking to raise awareness and funds for an East Lancashire based charity, that I have become aware of in the past 12 months - The Wish Centre. Domestic Abuse, by it's nature, is a hidden and life-threatening problem for those affected. The more people know about the support available, the better.
The aim of the organisation is to support people who have suffered or who are at risk of suffering domestic abuse, through the provision of support, advice and accommodation. They work with victims and their families to secure the safety of those affected by domestic abuse and support their development so that each individual is helped to grow and fulfil their potential into the future.
They recognise that domestic abuse can impact anyone in our communities, however it is clear from research and practice that domestic abuse is a crime that impacts predominantly on women and girls and it is important that the gendered nature of domestic abuse is understood.
All who are part of the Wish Centre (BDDWA) firmly believe that women and girls who are victims of domestic abuse should have safe spaces to receive support and recover from their experiences. This does not mean they turn our backs on male victims and to ensure their safety and well-being they will ensure they are offered appropriate support and advice.
