I'm surprised as anyone writing this!

After 2023 I was never going back.......I'd completed what I set out to do and that was a chapter closed for me. Job done........finished!

Since then I've put my feet up and basked in the glory. I'd earned it......

Fast forward 6 weeks and an e-mail dropped into my work inbox from SSAFA.

For those that don't know, in a previous life I did in fact serve in the British Army (I was what you could call a tracksuit soldier - I played every sport I could to avoid actual work. Rugby, football, badminton, squash and I even played goalkeeper in hockey).

SSAFA were fishing for people to raise funds and looking for people to get involved. I've done fundraising over the years so little naive me sent a reply!

SO..............

On September 22, 2024, I'll be taking part in IronMan Wales:

2.4-mile swim

112-mile bike

26.2 miles run

WHY? I hear you ask.......

Here's why this cause is so important to me:

Our armed forces personnel sacrifice so much to protect our freedom. I've personally lost friends over the years and seen how military service can have a life long affect on people. SSAFA ensures that they get the help and care they need, whether it's for physical or mental health issues.

Supporting Families: The families of service members also face unique challenges. SSAFA provides vital support to families during times of deployment and beyond.

Mental Health Matters: Mental health struggles are often a hidden battle, and our veterans are not immune to this. SSAFA's services include mental health support, aiding those who've served in overcoming trauma and other emotional difficulties.

Practical Assistance: SSAFA offers practical help, from housing support to financial assistance, ensuring that our veterans and their families have access to the resources they need for a better life.
