Welcome to Team Whizz Kidz for the 2025 London Marathon!

Story

Hi everyone,

After a bit of an extended break from running due to injuries, I have decided to get back out there and run the London Marathon in 2025!

I have run different events for charities close to me personally including Maggies, Cancer Research, Ronald McDonald House, Noah’s Ark and NSPCC but have always wanted to run for Whizz Kidz' who provide vital services for young wheelchair users.

As many of you know, my daughter Sophia is the only girl in the UK with a rare form of dysplasia that affects all of her skeletal system and has sadly given her a life time of pain and operations but has also left her needing to use a wheelchair.

At our lowest point shortly after Sophia’s diagnosis when we questioned what kind of future Sophia would have and nowhere to really turn too for answers, we came across Whizz Kidz who have been Sophia’s and our families light at the end of a sometimes dark tunnel.

As a charity, they are known for putting on fabulous days out that create a lifetime of memories. For Sophia and us all, we never imagined she’d be able to Surf, she’s done it! No chance that she’d ever be able to Ski, she’s done it. Drive a racing car, she’s done it. Ice skating, you guess it, she’s done it.

These were all carefully put together by Whizz Kidz to turn dreams into reality for Sophia and 1000’s of others.

Sophia before her official diagnosis ended up not being able to walk and was crawling around the house on her hands and knees. When out of the house, she’d be pushed around in a pram.

Thanks to the amazing Whizz Kidz, they provided a wheelchair of dreams for Sophia that gave her independence back. I can still remember the smile and laughter from her the first time she used it. From that moment on, our happy, fun loving princess was back.

More recently, with Sophia wanting to be independent in going out with her friends or getting around school, Whizz Kidz supplied her with her first motorised wheel chair which has been another huge game changer in Sophia’s life.

The days out are amazing and the products they provide really do change peoples lives but what they also offer is a network of support to families to be able to talk about their experiences and show that they aren’t alone. More importantly, when we all meet up for days out, for Sophia in her own words, she feels normal being with other children with disabilities and not like the odd one out when she’s with able bodied children. This has had a huge impact on her outlook in life and has made her so much more stronger and determined to live the life she deserves.

I really can’t thank Whizz Kidz enough for changing our families lives by just saying thank you so this is mine and my families way of giving back to a charity that is so worthy a million times over ❤️
