Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On February the 19th 2024 I will be climbing Kilimanjaro for charity (The Kids Village).
It is a climb reaching the height of just over 19,000 feet or 5895 metres which will take around 8 days to complete. The tallest mountain on the African continent and the highest free standing mountain in the world. Our team led by Alan Chambers https://www.alanchambers.co.uk/ (recently completed an expedition to the South Pole) have been in training over the last few months all to achieve their own personal goals whilst also aiming to raise some much needed funds to support the charity.
All money raised will go directly to The Kids Village, which is a fantastic charity. They have planning permission to build and operate the first purpose-built, magical holiday village in the UK. This Village is exclusively for children with critical illnesses and their families, providing crucial respite from the trauma of extended treatments in hospitals, surrounded by those who understand.
Your money will go directly to help make this holiday village a reality. To find out more go to: https://www.kidsvillage.org.uk/
Whilst I will immensely enjoy the experience I also appreciate how much this charity will benefit families across the UK. Having recently experienced my niece having to go through chemotherapy and the challenges this puts on the whole family, having a facility which can offer them some form of support, care and time away I know is much needed within the UK.
I have also spoken to the founder - Sam Fletcher-Goodwin (who will also be walking with us, and has shared her challenges when younger and how this support would have impacted Sam when going through her illness.
I appreciate we are all recovering from Xmas but any donation is welcome to make the journey up a little more focussed to achieve the goal.
Thank you
