72 Hole Challenge · 25 June 2025

We run groups for people with dementia to take part in activities based around Cognitive Stimulation Therapy, enjoy a hot lunch, entertainment and have fun in an understanding environment with trained support workers and volunteers while loved ones gain regular breaks from their caring roles.

Story

It is a great honour to be Club Captain at The Hertfordshire Golf & Country Club this year. Of the many roles and responsibilities that comes with the captaincy, choosing the year's charity and raising funds to support their cause is without doubt the most fulfilling.

This year, alongside the Ladies section at the club, we are supporting All Sorts Dementia Group. All Sorts run fun & relaxed groups, for people with mild to moderate dementia, who want to socialise in an understanding environment, whilst their loved ones gain a 4.5 hour much needed break from their caring roles. They operate 5 sessions per week in Ware, Sawbridgeworth and Essendon, where a fantastic team of Dementia Friends Support Workers and volunteers run activities and entertainment throughout the day, including live music and exercise classes to improve their lifestyle.

During the sessions, All Sorts also provide Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST). This consists of a series of themed activities, which when completed in a group has been evidenced as having a significant improvement in memory, new learning skills, language and quality of life.

All Sorts aim is to promote the health, wellbeing and positive living of people with Dementia and their families by providing support and advice for the future.

Sadly, everyone either knows someone with dementia now, or is likely to in their lifetime. Groups like All Sorts provide invaluable support not just to those suffering, but to their families and carers as well.

So, in addition to the many fund-raising activities that we have planned this year, I am taking on the challenge most golfers dread, but cannot resist….72 holes (4 rounds) in 1 day. On Wednesday 25th June, alongside a few of my equally mad, but incredibly supportive golfing buddies, I shall be taking on this challenge, starting the 1st round at 4.45am.

Whether out of sympathy for me, but more importantly a desire to support such a worthwhile cause, I would hugely appreciate your donations, 100% of which will go straight to All Sorts.

Thank you in advance for your kind generosity…. And please pray for a dry, not too hot day on the 25th!!
