Last year I met so many children who had never had a toy; who didn't know what simple bird stickers were.

Biking Birder Ten! BBX. My tenth Biking Birder adventure takes me back to Rwanda and I will be there for two months. The first month will be focused on meeting the amazingly friendly people I met last year, visiting the same nature reserves and places as last year and meeting new people, seeing new places.

Where will I meet the phenomenal Rwandan birder, Joseph Lionceau? Maybe in Kigali, maybe in Musanze, Joseph is a wonderful and bird crazy young ambassador for birding nature conservation in Rwanda.

The second month of my Rwandan Biking Birder adventure, 2026 will see me back on my bike, heading south from Kinunu towards what I have been told repeatedly to be a magnificent national park, Nyungwe Forest : https://visitnyungwe.org/

A part of Rwanda I have never been to before, my excitement level will rise with each of the thousand hills, Rwanda is the Land of A Thousand Hills, climbed and descended, with each passing kilometer and with each passing smile and greeting from these marvelous people.

Rwanda is fabulous!

My bike is hopefully safe and ready for me at Kinunu, near to the shore of the immense Lake Kivu. It has been looked after by a wonderful Rwandan birdwatcher and bird guide, Remy Mgonibaga, who has an incredible group of young people dedicated to bird study, The Kivu Hills birders.
