Story

Our friend Gary was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer in January 2025 and, despite undergoing radical prostatectomy surgery last March, there are still battles to face. Gary is currently undergoing some fairly significant hormone treatments and, as the cancer is considered advanced, will also shortly face seven weeks of intensive radiotherapy at the Beatson in Glasgow.

Despite all this, Gary is determined to complete Hyrox, Glasgow in March 2026 with his pal Julie Malloy, to raise vital funds for The Eilidh Brown Respite Home for children with cancer. The Hyrox will take place during his radiotherapy treatment, but even if he has to walk or crawl his way around the course at the SECC, we know Gary will succeed.

Gary is being supported by an amazing group of family and friends, fantastic Stirling Uni Hyrox chums and the brilliant Hyrox community in Stirling and Clacks, including leading Hyrox competitors such as Will, Trev and their warrior team of men and women.

Gary has been training relentlessly for six months, up to 12 sessions a week; strength training, cardio and Hyrox classes, to prepare himself whilst undergoing treatment and always with a smile on his face and encouraging, supportive words for others. He is an inspiration.

Please help us to support Gary and the local Hyrox community by helping us raise money for The Eilidh Brown Respite Home and raising the awareness of Prostate cancer, as well as the importance of PSA screening, a cause so admirably advanced by Sir Chris Hoy and others.
