Story
On a more personal note, three years ago our family received the devastating news that my father-in-law, Keith, had been diagnosed with PSP. Like many families, we knew very little about the disease — and that is part of what makes it so cruel. There is limited research and no medication to cure or even slow this relentless condition, which gradually eats away at everything it touches.
The last three years have been a complete rollercoaster of emotions. Keith was unable to enjoy the retirement he had worked so hard for and was cruelly forced to finish work far earlier than anyone should have to. Watching someone you love lose so much — their mobility, speech, and sight, to name just a few — is heartbreaking beyond words.
As a family, we’ve chosen to focus on what we can do: making memories and continuing to do so for as long as we’re able.
I’ve told Keith that I’m running this marathon for him. He gave me a smile and simply said, “Go smash it.”
And that is exactly what I intend to do. Keith will be with me every step of the way, carrying me through every single mile.
This marathon won’t cure Keith — but it can make a difference. It helps raise awareness for a massively under-invested, devastating disease that affects too many families in silence. I wouldn’t wish this journey on anyone, yet the reality is that other families will face it too.
That’s why we need help — to fund research, raise awareness, and work towards a future where this disease no longer takes so much from the people we love.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for any support you can give — it truly means everything ❤️
I am participating in the adidas Manchester Marathon on April 19, 2026, with a fundraising target of £2.000. Your support can help make a significant difference in the lives of those impacted by PSP and CBD. Together, we can create hope and change for families facing these challenges. Please consider donating to this important cause.
