Story

After 15 years of applying to the London Marathon ballot, this has been the year that I’ve finally got a place to run.

On April 27th 2025 I will be lining up to complete my longest run to date. Although I have completed many half marathons and 10kms, I have never committed to training for a marathon, until now!

In the run up to the marathon, I will not only be training hard but will also be fundraising for Tommy’s- a charity supporting a cause very close to my heart.

Why Tommy’s

Growing up you are given the impression you...get married, get pregnant, and have a baby. Easy. Unfortunately, this is not the reality of life, and it is estimated that around 1 in 4 pregnancies end in loss during pregnancy or birth.

Through our own experiences, my wife and I have sadly been on the wrong side of these statistics, twice suffering miscarriages whilst trying to conceive our second child.

Both miscarriages hit us incredibly hard and as these happened in and around the covid lockdowns, it only heightened to the loneliness we felt whilst trying to process the losses.

As a husband, I was trying hard to ensure I looked after my wife. With hindsight I should have taken better care of her, but I also failed to process my own grief.

Bottling up the grief started to impact my mental health and I found myself in a dark place. At this time, I found the resources on Tommy's website. It gave me support and guided me to start looking forward.

More devastatingly, some of our family and friends have experienced stillbirths, and the pain and agony is unquantifiable to me. Their resolve to handle this difficulty is something I will always admire. I know different charities like Tommy’s offered them a lot of support at the time.

I’m extremely lucky to have two healthy children and would wish everyone a healthy and successful pregnancy. Now is the time I can help return the support by fundraising during my marathon training and hitting my target of running a sub four-hour time!

Your support

Please support this great cause if you can. As I run the marathon, I will be using your donations and messages to power me through. But most importantly, your money will be used to fund ground-breaking research and provide much needed support to parents, who like me, needed support in their time of need.
