The Brain Tumour Charity is the world’s leading brain tumour charity and the largest dedicated funder of research into brain tumours globally. Committed to saving and improving lives, we’re moving further, faster to help every single person affected by a brain tumour. A cure really can’t wait

Story

Myself and the lads are off for a big walk! In memory of my Dad, Pete Gaunt, we are raising money for the Brain Tumour Charity. Dad had a Glioblastoma, an incurable aggressive tumour, with only 25% of those diagnosed surviving 12 months and only 5% surviving 5 years. Not to sugar coat it, but brain tumours are an absolute b*****d and Dad unfortunately lost his battle on Christmas Eve 2022.

The treatments for the disease have barely changed for 40 years, with just 1.37% of the national spend on cancer going towards Brain Tumour research. Loosely put, at the current rate of spending it will take 100 years for Brain Cancer treatment developments to catch up with other disease developments and find a cure. The Brain Tumour charity is committed to funding research that will increase survival and will take every step necessary to improve quality of life for everyone affected by brain tumours. This is why we are raising funds for them, and why it is so vitally important to make break throughs in research and treatment to help prevent others suffering from this disease in the future.

To help fund the research we are undertaking the national 3 peaks challenge! This consists of summitting the highest mountains in Wales (Snowdon), England (Scafell Pike) and Scotland (Ben Nevis) with a total distance of 23 miles and a total elevation of over 10,000 feet! We aim to complete this within 24 hours which will be no mean feat and we pray to the traffic gods to keep us free from queues on the mighty M6!

Dad dying has left a massive hole in not only our family, but the wider community that he was such a huge part of, so anything you can give in his honour will be greatly appreciated. Please dig deep and give us whatever you can!
