Welsh 3000's Hike for the Fire Fighters Charity · 15 July 2026

Fire Fighters Charity provides care and support to the UK’s fire family. It helps with any health and wellbeing challenges firefighters, control staff, and everyone working in – or retired from – the UK’s fire services, as well as their families, may face - during and after service

Story

In 2008 I injured my back at work, I struggled on in pain for the next few years but in 2012 one of my colleagues suggested I speak to the Firefighters Charity, straight away they supported me with 2 weeks of rehabilitation and physio at one of their incredible residential centres.

In 2024 I suffered a further injury to my back whist fitness training at work. I herniated a disc so badly that it was compressing my sciatic nerve, I was unable to work and I couldn't stand, walk or lie down without excruciating pain, almost 24/7 for 3 months. Again, the Firefighters Charity were on hand to support with remote physiotherapy and a promise of face to face rehabilitation once my condition improved. Thanks to their support I was able to see steady improvements in my condition, avoiding back surgery and managing to return to work in under 4 months.

This year on 15th July I will be hiking the Welsh 3000's with my fellow Firefighters at Brixton Green Watch to raise money for Firefighters Charity.

The Welsh 3000's is a challenge to summit 15 mountain peaks in North Wales in under 24 hours.

From 1st to last peak this involves covering 24miles of distance with 3300m ascent. Once you factor in the walk to and from the start and finish these numbers are over 30miles and 4000m ascent!!

This is about 30% more mileage and ascent than the '3 Peaks Challenge'.

In early 2024 I personally attempted to complete this challenge in 2 days and quit after the 1st day with only half the distance covered so I am under no illusion how difficult this will be.

🔥 OVER THE RIDGE FOR A REASON 🔥

This year, a determined team of firefighters are swapping fire stations for mountain trails — taking on an unforgiving trek across rugged peaks and harsh terrain to raise money for charity.

Carrying heavy packs, battling steep climbs, exhaustion, and the elements, they’ll push themselves far beyond the limits of comfort for one simple reason:

To help others...

The Fire Fighters Charity provides timely clinical care and wellbeing support to members of the UK’s fire services and their families, helping them to adapt to physical, emotional and social challenges, to live well with conditions, injuries and illness, and to transition to life after service.

Every mile they walk represents the same commitment they show every day in service — courage, teamwork, resilience, and sacrifice.

Now they need your support.

💛 Your donation can help make a real difference.

🥾 Your encouragement helps drive them forward.

⛰️ Your support turns every step into hope for people who need it most.

Please donate, share, and stand behind these incredible firefighters as they take on the mountains for charity.
