Gavin's fundraiser for Refuweegee

Gavin Lundy is raising money for Refuweegee

Edinburgh Marathon 2025 · 25 May 2025 ·

Refuweegee was set up in December 2015 to provide a warm welcome to forcibly displaced people arriving in Glasgow. As a result of the amazing response from people in Glasgow and beyond, we have provided over 5000 community-built, personal welcome packs to people all over Glasgow and across Scotland.

Story

I'm running my first marathon for Refuweegee. I've never been much of a runner before - and for an extra challenge I'm going booze free until I cross the finish line.

I've seen first hand how much of a difference Refuweegee can make for some of the most vulnerable people in Scotland. They help people make a life here, by furnishing accommodation with things to make a home, by providing emergency food parcels, IT equipment, clothes and baby items from their free shop, and by allowing people to attend social events to stave off social isolation.

What sets Refuweegee apart is their embracement of asylum seekers and refugees as New Scots! They do this through their ‘Letters fae a local’, giving everyone who arrives in Scotland a quintessentially Scottish welcome. Anyone can write a letter, postcard or even post-it-note, whether it to just make it known that refugees are welcome here, give someone tips about the city, or make a new friend!

Please consider donating, and maybe even write a letter of your own!
