A team of colleagues from GBS/Commissioning, part of Adult Social Care at Rochdale Borough Council have decided to create a team to take on this challenge as part of our team wellbeing initiatives.

This will benefit both colleagues taking part (linked to the 5 ways of wellbeing in connecting, being active and giving) and a local charity that many of us and the people that draw on care and support from Adult Social Care have/will benefit from.

Megan is one of the colleagues taking part from the GBS/Commissioning team and has shared her story below:

'On 16th September 2023, my mum passed away at Springhill Hospice. She was 51 and had been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer less than 9 months previous to this. Springhill supported mum with counselling sessions when she was poorly, where she was able to talk freely with a professional about how she felt, what she ideally wanted to happen next, and any fears she had. In her final days, me and my family were able to be with mum round the clock, and were made to feel welcomed and supported, while being reassured that mum was comfortable and pain free. As my daughter was 2 months old at the time, the Springhill team went above and beyond to support me to spend time with my mum, while feeding and caring for my baby. Mum’s life ended with me on one side of her bed, and her sister on the other. A kind doctor from Springhill was in the room too, ensuring her passing was calm and dignified.

I will always be grateful for Springhill Hospice and the experience me and my family had that was made possible by their team. I’m proud to be taking part in the 3 Reservoir Ramble challenge, to hopefully raise funds to help this exceptional cause.’

The entry fees and all fundraising will help keep open the doors to Springhill Hospice which has served the people of Rochdale ,Heywood and Middleton for the last 35 years. Current costs Springhill Hospice need to fundraise are approx £8000 per day so by taking part in the 3 Reservoir Ramble or sponsoring someone you are helping us to make every moment count.
