Charity Fashion Show

The Survivors Trust is the largest membership organisation for specialist rape and sexual abuse services in the UK. We aim to support and empower survivors of rape, sexual violence and/or childhood sexual abuse.

Story

This year, Grey College’s Charity Fashion Show (GCCFS) is supporting the Survivors Trust and we would be so grateful for your donations!

The Survivors Trust is the largest umbrella agency for specialist rape and sexual abuse services in the UK, with 129 member agencies providing information, advice, support and therapy to over 80 000 survivors each year. Every 5 minutes in the UK, someone is raped with 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men having experienced sexual violence. Therefore, the specialist counselling, support, helplines and advocacy services provided by the Survivors Trust are of the utmost importance.

We feel that the Survivors Trust is a particularly relevant charity for us as university students given that a 2018 study found that 62% of students and recent graduates had experienced sexual violence. As a result of sexual violence, students reported significant impact on their self-confidence, mental health, studies and social life so the independent service offered by the Survivors Trust is crucial in supporting our own community.

GCCFS is a student-run charity event at Durham University which will take place in February, and this year’s theme is ‘A Night in Hollywood’. We’ll be holding multiple fundraising events leading up to the day of the show, so it would be great for you to come along and support these events as much as you can in aid of a cause that is very important to us as students!
