Help Me Go the Distance for Pembrokeshire Coast Charitable Trust
Four weeks ago, Pembrokeshire Coast Charitable Trust shared that they had a space available for Ironman Wales. Without hesitation, I said “yes.” The challenge? I had zero swimming or cycling experience.
After some baseline training, I quickly realised the skill, technique and experience needed to meet the official Ironman cut-offs wasn’t going to happen this year with 4 weeks training. But rather than give up, I decided to create my own version of the challenge — and push myself to see if I can still go the distance.
Here’s the plan:
🏊♂️ I’ll swim 2.4 miles at Gelliswick Beach
🚴 I’ll cycle 112 miles by looping through Broad Haven, Haverfordwest, Neyland, and Milford Haven
🏃 I’ll finish with a Marathon
Why? Because Pembrokeshire’s coast has given so much to our community, and the Charitable Trust works tirelessly to protect it for generations to come. From conservation and wildlife projects to education and access, their work ensures that the beauty of our coastline is never taken for granted.
I might not have the skill or experience you’d expect for a challenge like this, but I do have a £100 bike from Facebook Marketplace — and I’ll be riding it until the wheels fall off. Literally.
