We are Gem & Ju, two friends who both lost our mums (both called Sue) to cancer.

Having seen and experienced the wonderful care given at LOROS Hospice in Leicester, we decided that we would set ourselves a massive challenge to raise money for them by walking 100 miles in 4 days!

LOROS gave us both the most precious of things – time with our mums, by letting us be by their sides during their final days.

The staff and volunteers not only care for the patients but also for the families too by offering support, explaining what was happening simply and with empathy, hugs when needed and endless cups of tea.

“Thank you” is just not enough to express how grateful we are to everyone at LOROS, so if shifting our backsides for 4 days can help other patients and families then it is worth every mile, every blister and every sore muscle.

It's important to know that LOROS Hospice isn’t just a place that people go to pass away. Its so much more than that.

The Hospice offers specialised care for those over 18 with complex problems who are suffering from a terminal illness when cure is no longer possible, this includes:

- Short-stay inpatient ward for symptom management and/or end of life care

- Outreach support in the patient’s home - Clinical Nurse Specialist and Compassionate Neighbours service

- Day therapy

- Complementary therapy

- Counselling

Each year, LOROS need to raise more than £6 million to deliver their care. With ours and your help, they can continue to develop LOROS as a place of care and support for thousands of terminally ill patients and their loved ones across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

£5 could pay for meals for a patient for a day

£10 could pay for collection of a patient from home for day therapy

£25 could pay for a protective uniform for a nurse

£100 could pay for a Community Nurse Specialist patient visit

£932 could pay for the running of the Hospice for an hour
