SCIPS was set up to support parents whose babies require neonatal intensive care services at The University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff. Money raised is used not only for vital life saving equipment, but also for the extra little touches, such as soft furnishings for the nurseries and parent areas, keepsake boxes, bereavement packs, first diaries and nursey fittings etc. Anything to make the parents and siblings stay on the unit a bit easier. We contribute to the Annual Remembrance Service for loved and lost babies. Volunteers help the charity to hold social events to bring families together throughout the year. This includes monthly coffee mornings, Easter Egg hunt, Teddy Bear’s picnic & Christmas party for parents to come together, share their experiences and offer support to one another. SCIPS also supports training and education needs of the staff on the unit.

Story

After a long NICU journey; of 120 days, our beautiful girl Alyssia Elizabeth born on 16th July 2023 weighing just 1 lbs 2oz, in being a 15 week preemie.

She had fought through everything thrown in her way. Having an abdomen operation, lung lobectomy operation and a Hickman surgical line operation. Whilst having to undergo anaesthesia for MRI scan of her brain.

During the rollercoaster journey in her having a number of CPR and chest compression episodes; whereby we could have lost her at least 4 times, her sincere determination and strength got her through and she carried on fighting.

In the latter few weeks, we found that she had a rare genetic disease which affects bone marrow failure and also other vital organs. Over the past week it would appear that her body could not cope with all the medication and issues affecting her body.

On Monday 13th November 2023, she fought for her life til the bitter end and at 08:08am she had no more to give.

She was and will always be a strong, fierce with tremendous willpower little baby girl who will be sincerely missed by Mammy and Daddy, but more importantly her big sister Millie Rose. One comfort that does come out of the heartache is that her elder sister; Sophia-Rose will continue to look after her in heaven.

Sleep tight baby girl. Mammy, Daddy, Millie, Auntie Gem, cousins - Leo and Mya love you more than words can express. XxxXx💞🥰😘
