Story
I’m running the London Marathon 2026 for Shine – in honour of my incredible nephew. Rupert Mortimore 💛
In 2026, I’ll be taking on the challenge of the London Marathon to raise money for Shine – a charity that supports those living with spina bifida and hydrocephalus, and their families.
At their 20-week scan, my brother Alex and his wife Hannah received the news no parent ever expects – their baby boy had spina bifida. It was a moment that changed everything. But from that moment on, Rupert has shown nothing but strength, courage, and resilience.
Born under the expert care of Bristol Children’s Hospital, he underwent spinal surgery at just 20 hours old. Since then, he’s faced more surgeries, including having a shunt fitted to relieve pressure on his brain. Yet through it all, he’s faced every challenge with a smile and continues to hit milestone after milestone.
He is, without doubt, the happiest, cheekiest little boy – full of joy, mischief, and charm. He steals the hearts of everyone he meets. His determination is nothing short of inspiring – and it’s that spirit that will keep me going through every mile of the marathon.
By supporting Shine, you’re helping children like my nephew and families like ours access the specialist care, advice, and community they so desperately need. Every donation – big or small – will make a real difference.
Thank you so much for your support 💛
Let’s do this – for Rupert, and for all the families on this journey.
