Ronald McDonald House UK helps families with children in hospital stay close by providing free accommodation just minutes from children’s hospital wards. Our Houses provide more than accommodation. We offer stability and emotional support that allow parents and carers to be active partners in care.

Story

IMPORTANT: 100% OF ALL DONATIONS GO TO OUR CHOSEN CHARITIES. WE ARE FUNDING OUR TRIP TO KILIMANJARO INDEPENDENTLY AND WITHOUT USING ANY MONEY FROM DONATIONS OR CHARITIES.

In August 2023, we will be attempting to tick off a huge Bucket List Item by summitting Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's tallest mountain and the tallest free-standing mountain in the world - 5,895m above sea level!!! We will be tackling the 8-day Lemosho Route, sleeping in tents and hiking through extreme climates with a serious lack of oxygen!!

In doing so, we've decided to raise money for two charities:

Ronald McDonald House Charities UK: Ronald McDonald House Charities UK provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation to families with children having treatment in hospital. The Houses offer much more than just a place to stay; they provide family activities, peer support, respite, and many other services. This means that families can be by their child’s bedside in a matter of moments, whilst maintaining a degree of normal life with reduced emotional and financial strain.

Wideopen FC: Despite the fact that many girls and women love football, it’s still a sport that’s overwhelmingly dominated by men. Even with the sport’s popularity, women face barriers that prevent them from participating. McDonalds, Gosforth Park currently sponsors the Under 13s Wildcats girls team which Gemma’s daughter is part of and we have seen first hand how McDonalds have supported our local community by providing sponsorship to the team and enabling the girls to grow and develop as a team. As well as raising money for Ronald McDonald House UK, we would also like to raise funds for Wideopen FC Under 8 girls so they are able to purchase football strips and compete as a team.

Thank you all so much in advance for your donations & shares! Wish us luck!
