Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge · 1 June 2024

Sepsis accounts for 48,000 deaths annually in the UK, that’s more than breast, bowel and prostate cancer put together. Sepsis is what happens when our immune system overreacts to an infection. Symptoms initially present as flu like but can rapidly deteriorate into a life threatening condition.

Story

We sadly lost our lovely friend and colleague Bev to sepsis last year. As a group we wanted to take part in this challenge to honour her memory and raise awareness of sepsis.

Our group includes people who are walking and others we are lucky enough to have a joining us along the way to help with fundraising, cooking and supporting us during the challenge.

A lot of us taking part have cared for many people with sepsis and seen the devastation it causes. We hope that by completing the challenge and fundraising we will be able to help in the fight against Sepsis.

Sepsis takes the lives of 5 people an hour in the UK alone, it primarily affects very young children and older adults, and is also more common in people with underlying health conditions, it can sometimes be triggered in those who are otherwise fit and healthy. Through early recognition we can help preventable deaths related to this condition.
