Story
Those of you close to me already know that I am incredibly passionate about marine conservation and have spent the past 15 years of my life dedicated to hands on animal rescue with numerous organisations but primarily with BDMLR. I have rescued cetaceans small and large, hundreds of seals, seabirds and even endangered turtles throughout my years.
BDMLR has long been a charity very close to my heart and I am proud to currently be the North Wales BDMLR coordinator and honoured to be part of what we achieve as both a welsh team and UK wide team. Over the past decade or so, marine wildlife has been facing ever increasing threats leading to large numbers of rescues and busier seasons year on year. This has resulted in increased strain on the team and charity as a whole, more casualties and increased cost.
To help raise some funds to contribute towards purchasing new rescue gear, fuel costs for rescues, training, and veterinary supplies I will be doing a sponsored walk of the entire Anglesey (Ynys Mon) coastal path towards the end of summer. The path is approximately 130 miles and I will be attempting to walk it continuously, completing a full circuit of the island with all of my supplies on my back.
As well as fundraising, this walk is also about raising awareness and discussing some important topics around conservation, mental health in the animal care industry, the organisations working together for conservation in Wales, and ofcourse the animals we have met along the way. I consider myself incredibly privileged to have the opportunity to meet the amazing animals that I do and hope to share their stories with you each step of the way. I will be continuously posting on social media and encourage you all to join me for a little section of the walk if able to do so to chat about all things BDMLR, mental health and marine conservation.
