Our Story;
Last year Malcolm, Harry and I welcolmed our beautiful, strong daughter/ Sister Eva to our family. This wasn't without complications.
Eva stopped growing at 29 weeks in utero and was estimated at weighing 2.4lb. I spent some time in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary as Eva and I were monitored closely by an amazing team of consultants. With the additional amazing support of my own personal dream team Husband/ Daddy Malcolm and Eva's top big brother to be Harry.
Due to Eva's static growth and reducing movement it was agreed that she had to come out and that we would try to get to 34 weeks. A couple of steroid injections to boost Eva's internal organ growth, regular scans, ECGs and we got there, bang on 34 weeks and we welcomed our precious little Eva at 3.3lb to the world and straight through to Neonatal she went, closely followed by her Daddy, and a little later important first visitor, doting big brother Harry.
Eva after arriving six weeks early and being so small spent three weeks in Aberdeen Neonatal getting stronger everyday and made small improvements, moving from her incubator to a heated cot, to a cot with reduced heat. From being tube fed to bottle and breast. The reason for Eva's static growth was that she had a severly twisted cord. Eva is a determined character and continues to go from strength to strength.
All of this success was thanks to the amazing team that surrounded Eva and myself.
Now for the challenge, I'm no runner - at least I don't view myself as one- I'm an equestrian with a love of endurance riding. I love the 80 Kilometre in a day distance... when doing the distance I would never tell myself or my horse we were doing 80k, it was 2x30k and a 20k... simples right?!
So, with an equestrian around and sound attitude, I intend tackling this few 5 and 10ks... simples? We'll see...
I intend to look forward, not back and will remind myself of all those babies and families who have and will continue to go through Aberdeen Neonatal receiving the love, support and treatment they need and deserve.
You can never be sure how things might go during or after pregnancy. So it is reasuring knowing that there is a tower of support there ready just incase.
So, here we are, this one is for Eva and Eva's Angels at Aberdeen Neonatal - Archie Foundation. To whom our family are forever thankful.
If you can make a donation no matter how big or small, please do. Thank you!
