Cycling the Flat 100 South to raise vital funds to keep people Dancing for Joy in Essex · 17 September 2023

DNA enables people to live more connected, joyful and aspirational lives through dance. Dancing with DNA provides opportunities for people to improve their confidence and physical well-being, nurtures creativity and independent thinking and enhances friendships through social interaction.

Story

There are two reasons why I am raising money for DNA...

The first is because I felt it was only fitting that I fundraise for a charity so close to home! My own (in a way) by taking part in a personal challenge and helping raise vital funds for the organisation's stability. I want my team and the people we meet to continue finding joy in dancing, and I can only do this if we keep DNA fully funded to offer the excellent services we provide in Essex. So if you can please donate and continue to support the great work we have over the past 8 years.

DNA was initially built in 2015 on my personal lived experience of watching older adults close to me become socially isolated, which had a further effect on thier physical and mental health. All I knew was how to dance and the business of dance... and so became the Dance Network Association (DNA).

I created a charity to support people who were socially isolated, using dance as the key driver to increasing positive health and well-being.

Fastforward 8 years and we have so many wonderful programmes, all supporting people at different stages of life with their mental and physical health - but above all, we want people to find the joy in DANCE!

Secondly, for my own mental and personal fitness health. Some of you may have already seen my fundraiser in July, and I have cycled 300 miles over the month. This challenge is way out of my comfort zone (maybe less way than it was when I started training in June 2023) - cycling 100 miles in the Flat 100 South event. To cover the distance in one go. A truly great personal goal and achievement.
