Ocular melanoma is so rare and the prognosis often so overwhelming, that patients frequently report feeling totally isolated. We advocate for change by uniting stakeholders against ocular melanoma cancers so people receive the treatment, information and support they need.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Last summer whilst umpiring Dudley Summer League Chairman Sally Chambers and key to Midrange Netball club had issues with her eye. Sally attended the Opticians who referred her to an eye specialist. After numerous tests Sally was diagnosed with cancer of the eye.

Uveal melanoma is a cancer arising from structures in the middle layer of the eye. The more research you do into this, the more you realise it is rare and treatment isn’t conventional. There are approx. 600 new cases of Uveal melanoma in the UK each year and 50% of all patients may go to develop tumours in other organs.

In February Sally was delivered more devastating news as the cancer had spread to her liver and to be told this is not curable.

Sally has been a netball inspiration. Whilst attending the Midrange Netball Tournament in July I offered to run London for Sally and the charity that is supporting her, Ocumel.
