Genette's fundraiser for Blood Cancer UK

Genette Flynn is raising money for Blood Cancer UK

Afternoon Tea plus Guest Speaker · 20 September 2025

From weddings to anniversaries, birthdays to retirements: by fundraising on your special day and giving in celebration, you’ll change the lives of people affected by blood cancer.

Story

Dear friends,

I’d like to share a little of my journey. At the age of 40, I was diagnosed with a rare blood condition called Essential Thrombocythaemia, a type of Myeloproliferative Neoplasm (MPN). I lived with this condition for 27 years, managing it with care and resilience.

Earlier this year, in March, my condition progressed to Myelofibrosis, another form of MPN and a much rarer, terminal blood cancer. Fewer than 2,000 people in the UK live with this diagnosis. While the news has been difficult, I’ve been responding well to chemotherapy and, thankfully, have been feeling energised and optimistic.

To make the most of this strength, I’ve decided to hold a fundraising event to support vital blood cancer research and raise awareness of these rare conditions. As a retired Barclays Bank employee, I’m also eligible to apply for matched funding of up to £750, so every pound donated can go even further.

You are warmly invited to join me for a "Posh Afternoon Tea" at St Michael’s Church Hall in Blundellsands on Saturday 20th September 2025 at 2:30pm.

The afternoon will include a selection of delicious tea and treats, followed by a fascinating talk from a special guest speaker, a retired Royal Protection Officer, who will be sharing entertaining stories from his time in service.

Tickets must be purchased in advance and are available directly from me. Please make sure to secure your place early, as numbers are limited.

If you’re unable to attend, I would still be incredibly grateful for any support through donations via this page. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help make a real difference.

With heartfelt thanks,

Gen Flynn
