Story
This year marks the 55th anniversary of the Museum, and £55,000 is being raised through the crowdfunding appeal below. Supporters are invited to sponsor individual buildings. I am pleased to be sponsoring West Wittering School (above) and improvements have already been made as a result of my sponsorship.
The Museum has also begun to update signage and interpretation to improve accessibility, particularly for those with reading needs. However, I believe there is an opportunity to go further—developing interpretation that engages all visitors, whatever their age, interests or experience.
I am proposing a Mathematics Trail which will invite visitors to discover the patterns, shapes and practical ideas hidden within historic buildings and traditional crafts. From timber frames and wheels to measures and proportions, mathematics is woven into everyday life, past and present.
With clear, accessible prompts for both younger and older visitors, and optional QR links for those who wish to explore further, the trail will offer an engaging and inclusive way to experience the Museum, helping it to present its collection in a more engaging way
Along the trail, both adults and children will discover how these ideas connect directly with the mathematics we learn and use today. They will reveal how mathematics lies at the heart of everyday craft and construction, showing that it has long been part of daily life and traditional skills.
The first phase of the project is to build a trail which starts with a Slate at the Victorian School and finishes with a Screen at the Gridshell.

The link below provides more information about the way in which artificial intelligence may help us to design the trail.
