Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On Thursday 10th October 2024 I will be walking from Margate beach(Kent) to The Old Neptune pub on Whitstable beach(Kent). This is around 17 miles, I know 17 miles might not seem a lot but this will be a HUGE achievement for me!

I am doing the walk on 10th October because it is World Mental Health Day. As some of you will know I have suffered from mental health issues for most of my life, this has definitely got worse for me over the last 2 years since my accident.

The accident has left me with some injuries that I will probably suffer with for the rest of my life and it has also caused me to have PTSD. I now struggle to do a lot physically because of my back, this time 2 years ago I couldn’t even walk around the corner to my mother in-laws house, so I want to show what you can do when you don’t give up. I also struggle to go out by myself because of the PTSD, I am now petrified of heights and I can’t see or hear anyone at a height without having a panic attack. That is why I have chosen to walk beach to beach so there’s less chance of me seeing or hearing anyone at a height.

This is going to cause me a lot of pain leading up to, during and after the event but I want to challenge myself both physically and mentally. This will be a massive struggle for me but I will do it!!

I have chosen to raise the money for New Leaf Support which is a Domestic Abuse charity in Swale.

I’ve chosen this charity because it means a lot to me and no doubt so many others seeing this. So many people suffer from domestic abuse, regardless of their gender! Domestic abuse has a massive impact on the mental health of the abused and their families!

New Leaf Support offers help, safe spaces, emotional and practical support for those affected and their families. They are now building the support for Males and the LGBTQ+ community, please help them to expand their services.

Please support and donate if you can, any donations are greatly appreciated no matter how big or small.

Thank you,

Geordie Flanagan.
