Story

I wanted to use the opportunity of running the London Marathon to shine a spotlight on an incredible charity still in its infancy. Transcend Sarcoma was set up by three brothers and championed now in memory of one of them.

Transcend Sarcoma’s founder Jack Holmes was diagnosed with stage 4 CIC::DUX Sarcoma at the age of 33 in November 2023 – a very rare type of Soft Tissue Sarcoma caused by a chromosomal translocation. Jack’s treatment options were limited to extension of life plans as no targeted treatment exists for this type of Sarcoma. Jack spent a lot of time investigating the world of Sarcoma once he’d been diagnosed, especially thanks to the support of the Sarcoma Pathology team at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hosptial NHS Trust. It was through this connection Jack was inspired to form a mechanism of raising money to fund research projects that would improve the outcomes of future patients of this type of disease.
